Puppet Craft, Puppet Show & Show Review: A HASS For Kids Puppetry Program

Larrikin Puppets Sock Puppet Craft, Puppet Show And Show Review Program is a practical, hands-on program where children have the opportunity to make a simple sock puppet, watch a professional puppet show, and write a critical review of the show – all while making HASS (Humanities, Arts & Social Science) education engaging and fun.

The program is aligned to the English, Drama, Visual Arts, and Design and Technology learning areas of the Australian School Curriculum, specifically:

  • supporting a students’ understanding of how puppets work in action, with a view to designing and making a simple puppet;
  • understanding how force and movement is created using materials.
  • supporting a students’ understanding of different artistic practices
  • expressing likes and dislikes;
  • responding and interpreting those artworks, including practicing responding to an artwork from the viewpoint of an audience.

Puppet Craft, Puppet Show And Show Review Program with Larrikin Puppets

3 Modules (3 x 45 minute to 1 hour classes/visits):

Module 1 (1 hour): Zietta Elissa presents a Sock Puppet Making Craft Workshop. With fun, colourful materials provided by Larrikin Puppets, students will learn how to construct a simple sock puppet using a sock they bring from home. This workshop uses a specific type of glue and requires one teacher/teacher aide (including Elissa) per 10 students.

Module 2 (45 minutes): Performed by Elissa and Brett, Larrikin Puppets presents a colourful and exciting puppet show featuring intriguing characters, songs, skits, jokes, games and live interaction that will have children full of wide eyed wonder, joy and laughs from beginning to end.

Module 3 (45 minutes): Zietta Elissa runs a writing workshop where students learn how to write a show review and providing a show rating. They learn how to form an opinion, learn how to express that opinion with confidence, and learn how their opinion might be different from another person’s opinion. They also receive an introduction to ideas around writing with respect, kindness and constructive criticism.
