A Hands-On Shadow Puppet Play Experience for Kindy
Kids Shadow Puppet Play is a 30-40 minute hands-on shadow puppet play experience designed for kindy groups (ages 4-5) in South-East Queensland.
Kids Shadow Puppet Play invites children into the magical world of shadows, where imagination takes centre stage.
Using simple shadow puppets and light play, children experiment, create and collaborate as they explore how movement, shape and story come together.
This gentle, interactive experience supports key areas of learning aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework by encouraging children to:
- Develop fine motor skills and hand–eye coordination as they manipulate different types of puppets.
- Strengthen gross motor skills through whole-body movement, reaching, balancing and expressive play.
- Strengthen visual-motor skills and spatial awareness while experimenting with light, position and form.
- Use language and expression as they create stories and give voices to their shadow characters.
- Build confidence and social skills through turn-taking, shared discovery and collaborative play.
- Develop creative thinking and problem-solving as they experiment with light, shape and storytelling.
- Strengthen a sense of belonging as they participate together in a group creative experience.
